Salon Human Resources Management
One of the most miss-understood and (no disrespect) one of the most miss-managed areas of salon management is MEANINGFUL - PRODUCTIVE people management.
Excellence in Human Resources Management will do more for the long-term growth and profitability of a salon than any other product, project or promotion and without question will mean the difference between “OK” and “WOW what a brilliant business I have”
Please see our Salon Human Resources support Subscription Level 1, however if you only need a single contract or document please see our list of documents below all available at the www.salon-advice.co.uk store. Please click a link below to read more about the document or pack.

Salon Business Truth
Think out-side of the box and scrutinise your salon staff and your salon business, do you like what you see?
Mark what you see out of 10 - be honest only you will know the answer.
If you do not score 10-out-of-10 then you need to identify the things you are not doing and/or identify the things you could do better.
Regardless of your score you need to consider this Salon Business Truth: Your salon business is a reflection of you! Good, bad or indifferent its a reflection of the person who handles the day-to-day-management of the staff. If you are a salon owner who employs a salon manager/s then the profitability of the salon/s will be determined on how well you manage the manager.
Salon Human Resources How and Why?
People are creatures of habit, and the habits that you allow your staff to form whilst working in your business will determine their level of productivity and profitability.
The key words here are “Habit” and “You”.
If any member of your team is unproductive or unprofitable it is your fault for not managing them effectively.
Again, no disrespect meant, but if you or your salon manager/s have never been trained in Professional Salon Human Resources Management (SHRM) then you cannot possibly know how profitable your business could be if you had applied a professional SHRM system in the past.
Please be aware that if your salon business is lack-lustre or you think it could be more profitable than it is now - their is no short term fix. And if any one tells you that there is - they are misinformed.
Future Management and Profitable Salon Growth
If your business is not where you want it to be today. And if you do nothing to remedy this today.
where will you be in 1, 2 or 3 years from now? Will you be profitable? Will you still be in business ?
“If you take action now - you can write your future history.
If you take NO action then you entrust your future to the habits of your staff !”
Generally speaking, salon staff have had brilliant creative and therapeutic training but have received very little if any business development training. And it is here where your problems lie, it is here where you and your staff’s previous salon managers have allowed your staff to develop bad, lazy, complacent habits which are holding 70 percent of salon businesses back from greatness.
So when you consider the question; where will your business be in 1, 2 and 3 years time?
You will find the answer lies in the amount time and training you are prepared to invest in Professional Salon Human Resources Management (SHRM).
Here in the Salon Managers Academy we provide cost effective training, tools and resources for you to achieve MEANINGFUL management leading to sustainable profitable growth, but you need to provide the business sav’vy and enthusiasm to invest in the tools and put them to work for your business.
Human Nature Management
Unproductive working habits form when we allow them to.
Conversely, productive working habits form when we manage them IN to our working routines and when we manage our staff strategically.
You cannot do this with the carrot-and-stick and you cannot do this with aggressive management. It can only be achieved with respect and integrity for your staff and your clients.
So we have to consider human nature and we have to plan to change bad, lazy or complacent habits!
Change Management - Leading to Profitable Salon Growth
I call this “change management” because salon managers need to change the way they manage their staff and salon staff have to change their unproductive habits and change the way they interact with their clients and this change can ONLY be achieved by effective Human Resources Management.
These are the FIRST steps you need to take on route to effective HR Management:
- Renew or replace old salon employee contracts
- Ensure your employee contracts have a meaningful job description
- Issue a bespoke salon employee handbook in-tune with employee contracts
- Initiate a meaningful staff productivity appraisal system bespoke per salon trade
- Ensure that every employee fully understands their role and responsibilities
- Issue meaningful staff productivity targets
- Follow targets up with further appraisals, remedial training and encouragement
If you are an experienced and confident salon owner or manager you will find all of the tools and resources you need to achieve the above in the Salon Managers Level 1 Package.
If you are less experienced or confident you will find all of the resources, support and mentoring you need in the Salon Managers Academy Level 2 Package.
Only when a salon manager FULLY UNDERSTANDS the 7 points above and why they are important will that salon manager (or owner) have a full understanding of productive people management which can lead to amazing profitability and growth.
Irrefutable Proof
All Salon Employees, Most Salon Owners & the majority of Managers view employee contacts, handbooks and Human resources legislation as a necessary nuisance, red tape and a pain in the backside.
Following years of research I can tell you that over 80 percent of salon employees think that they are employed to cut, colour and provide therapeutic services!
If you think that this is a strange statement for me to make and if you would like irrefutable proof that this “Red-Tape” can help you to SUBSTANTIALLY INCREASE salon revenue PROFITABLY then I invite you to register your salon details below to get a copy of the short “white paper” explaining exactly how an investment in our Level 1 or Level 2 Salon Business Development subscription can help you grow your salon business better, stronger and faster than your competitors.

Testimonial from a Solicitor acting for a Salon Owner
The testimonial below is from a solicitor acting for a salon owner in an unfair dismissal case. This kind of legal action is very costly and is completely avoidable. Salons today must act within the law and managers must be fully conversant with legislative human resources management.
“Hi Mick: I am meeting my clients this afternoon and will give them your contact details.
I believe that your package is just what they need to put their employment issues to bed.”Thank you - Ivan
Testimonial from a Salon Owner
Hi Mick: The Salon Managers Academy, salon managers and stylist business training have been of great help to my staff and my business.
The appraisal forms have given my staff more focus on how to set their targets and where we both can see where they are in their job. The comment’s i got back from the staff about their appraisals are, there the best they have ever had.
It as made the staff more focused and they know exactly what they need to do too achieve the results they want. Fantastic a must have for any salon.
Kind Regards
