October 11, 2012 By Mick Say Leave a Comment

Hairdressing and Beauty Industry Auto-Enrolment Pensions
The new Pensions ‘auto-enrolment’scheme, came into effect on 1 October 2012.

If you have less than 10 employees your auto enrolment date will be February 2017

Salon Employer Auto Enrolment Obligations

By now you should have communicated with the pensions regulator and completed your employee details on the Pensions Regulator Website beginning with the Pensions Regulator Duties Checker click this link to begin.

Don’t worry too much about this as it is a fairly simple procedure. If you need any support or would like a chat about this then please send an email to me at mick@micksay.com and write AUTO ENROLMENT in the subject line of your email and leave me a short message including the best telephone number to ring you back on.

This is a phased introduction of the scheme beginning with large companies employing 120,000 or more people. Smaller employers will have to enrol over the next six years.

Salons with less than 50 employees will begin to enrol in 2014, dependant on their employers PAYE reference Number.

Auto-enrolment requires employers to auto-enrol eligible salon staff, and make mandatory employer contributions, into a qualifying workplace pension scheme.

From their staging date, employers must auto-enrol eligible employees into a pension scheme when they reach the income tax threshold but contributions will kick in only from the employee threshold for national insurance contributions.

In order to find Identify your salon staging date, you will need to know:

  • How many people are in your PAYE scheme
  • Your PAYE reference.

Match your PAYE reference number with the staging dates on the table below.
